What Will My Designated Substance Survey (DSS) Identify?
Used to identify present designated substances, a Designated Substance Survey also determines their location, condition, and quantity. The results from a Designated Substance Survey helps you take control of the exposure level and begin the required steps in protecting individuals within and near the project area.
Required Designated Substance Surveys
Lasalle based project sites, and sites across Ontario, are required to compile a list of designed substances located within their Lasalle / Ontario building by the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. Along with being presented to all bidders within the tendering stage, the list of present designated substances is required to be made easily available to individuals within the vicinity.
If your Lasalle building contains designated substances in poor condition, these substances can pose a significant danger to those performing work inside your building, and any individuals located within the immediate area. The Province of Ontario has eleven substances that have been ‘designated’, vinyl chloride, silica, mercury, lead, isocyanates, ethylene oxide, coke oven emissions, benzene, asbestos, arsenic, and acrylonitrile. Of these designated substances, it’s important to note that the four most often located within building materials in Lasalle offices, commercial buildings, and homes are: Lead, Asbestos, Silica, and Mercury.
